Glenn Blackwood, Vice-President, Memorial University (Marine Institute), speaks Thursday about an $8.5-million expansion at the institute's marine base in Holyrood.

Federal, provincial and municipal politicians were on hand in Holyrood Thursday to discuss details of $8.5-million expansion of MUN’s Fisheries and Marine Institute facility in Holyrood.

The money will lead to construction of a new 36,000 square foot mobilization and launch base to provide researchers, ocean technology companies and students with physical space and new technology to test related products.

It will include technical work space, dry laboratories, classrooms and office space, and will focus on collaboration among researchers, businesses and students.
