Downtown St. John’s was bustling with shoppers buying Christmas gifts on Saturday. The Telegram’s Juanita Mercer asked them how their shopping was going, and whether they spent more or less money this Christmas, and why.
I’m a little bit behind – not too bad though. I’m spending about the same amount this year – it really depends on how at a loss I am for gift ideas – that’s really what it comes down to. - Sherrie Myers
I’m trying to get my shopping done right now – last minute. I’m probably spending a little more (this year) because I left it to the last minute. - Howie Trussetter
I have some last-minute stuff to get done today – I’m getting down to the wire. I’m usually a little further ahead than this, but I’m doing OK. It should be done today. We just bought a house, so our Christmas budget kind of went out the window. That was our Christmas gift to ourselves. Otherwise, budget-wise, we’re doing OK. - Charmaine Beckett
I’ve got most of my shopping done; I’m just going around taking a look for some last-minute items. (I’m spending) about the same this year I would say, not much different. I try to keep in the same limits, really, is all – the same $50 for this person, $100 for that person – so, that’s what I did. - Andrew Murphy
I’m still doing some shopping, but I’ve been off to Europe for a couple of weeks so I got some things from there, and I’ve got some things now I’m picking up here. I’m just spending the kind of money I need to spend to make it special. - Alistair Bath
