The Canadian Home Builders’ Association N.L. (CHBA-NL) has handed out the hardware celebrating the best in Newfoundland and Labrador’s residential construction centre.

The association’s 10th annual Berg Awards were held Saturday night in St. John’s.

The BERG Awards recognize achievement in high quality workmanship, customer service,

energy efficiency, and professionalism in new home construction and renovations.

“Although the housing sector has been impacted by the provincial economy over the last few years, our members’ commitment to quality remains top priority,” says Victoria Belbin, CEO for CHBA-NL, “We received submissions from the industry that were outstanding this year. These companies have shown great leadership in addressing the needs of consumers providing affordable, energy efficient and quality options.”

Three builders/renovators took home multiple awards Saturday night.

York Developments Inc. won two New Home Awards in the Under 1,500 sq.-ft and Between 1,500-2,200 sq.-ft categories.

Gibraltar Homes also received two awards, in the New Home Multi-Unit/Condo and Marketing of New Homes categories.

In a rare occurrence at the BERG Awards, one association member won in both new home and renovation categories – New Found Builders won the award for New Home Over 2,200 sq.-ft and Renovator’s Choice.

New Home Award – Over 2,200 sq.-ft – New Found Builders

New Home Award – Between 1,500-2,200 sq.-ft York Developments Inc.

New Home Award – Under 1,500 sq.-ft – York Developments Inc.

New Home Multi-Unit/Condo – Gibraltar Homes

Renovation – Kitchen Spaces

Renovator’s Choice – New Found Builders

Marketing of New Homes – Gibraltar Homes

Sub-trade – Dawe’s Plumbing & Heating

Safety – Terra Nova Trusses (1994) Ltd.

Supplier – Crown Cabinets & Fireplaces

In addition to the BERG Awards, the CHBA-NL also celebrated volunteers with its member of the year awards.

Randy Oram, of Karwood Contracting Limited was honoured in the Builder category for his leadership on national building code changes.

Krystal Hobbs of Reflective Marketing was named member of year in the Non-Builder category for her volunteer work with CHBA-NL.

The Rooftopper of the Year Award for recruiting the most members throughout the year was presented to Tim Crosbie of Coastal Cedar Homes.

Atlantic Home Warranty Customer Choice Awards were handed out to Eagle Construction Ltd (CHBA Member) winner in the greater than five homes category and Denovo Developments in the under five homes category. Both scored 100% in their respective categories.

The residential construction industry in Newfoundland and Labrador represents $1.5 billion in investment value, supports more than 11,982 jobs and paid $766 million in wages in 2017, CBHA-NL said.

CBHA-members include new home builders, renovators, developers, trade contractors, manufacturers, suppliers, lenders and other professionals.
