The 26th St. John’s Board of Trade Business Excellence Awards were held at the Sheraton Hotel Newfoundland in St. John’s Wednesday afternoon.
The awards recognize “the most prestigious entrepreneurs and businesses that have helped shape our province throughout 2018,” a board of trade spokesperson wrote in an email to The Telegram.
Ten awards were given to eight different businesses and entrepreneurs.
Fonemed received two awards, including the most prestigious award presented by the St. John’s Board of Trade: the Business Excellence Award. It recognizes innovation, creativity, sales growth and a passion for success.
The company offers telehealth nurse triage and remote medical health care services, and has been in business for more than 20 years. It’s based in this province, but its software is used around the world.
Fonemed also received the Customer Service and Reliability Award, recognizing dedication to customer satisfaction.
Training Works Inc., a knowledge and skills development company, was also awarded twice. It took home the Leader in Growth and Sales Award for companies with significant sales growth, as well as the Entrepreneurial Spirit Award for companies that offer new and exciting products or services.
The Community Impact Award recognizes companies with more than 20 employees that are continuously involved in helping the community and make outstanding contributions through donations, time, effort and other means.
Newfoundland Broadcasting/NTV received that award.
The Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra won for Marketing and Promotional Achievement, Powers Brown Architecture was recognized with the Innovative Solutions Award, and Cox & Palmer took home the Workplace Excellence Award.
Two individuals were also recognized for their achievements in business.
Kristina Ennis was named Emerging Young Professional.
That award recognizes someone 35 or younger with one or more years of professional experience in their current career, who has exhibited excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession in some or all of the following: company growth, customer service, community service and/or acts as a role model for younger people personally and professionally.
Kim Keating was named the Community Builder Volunteer of the Year, given to someone who is committed and volunteers in the community.
