Two of the province’s professional sports organizations, the Newfoundland Growlers and the St. John’s Edge, have teamed up with Noia in support of the province’s offshore oil and gas industry.
A promotional logo will be featured at centre ice and court side during games this month, including the Growlers versus Orlando Solar Bears game on March 9 and the Edge versus Saint John Riptide game on March 17.
“Noia, the Newfoundland Growlers and St. John’s Edge are excited to announce a collaborative effort to highlight the importance of the Newfoundland and Labrador offshore oil & gas industry,” reads a news release issued by offshore petroleum association Noia on Wednesday.
“Both games will highlight the importance of our offshore oil & gas industry to Newfoundland and Labrador, and indeed Canada,” reads the release.
Noia member companies have already purchased over 3,500 tickets for the games.
“The offshore oil and gas industry provides tremendous value to our province and Noia is pleased to receive the support of both of our professional sports teams,” Noia CEO Charlene Johnson was quoted saying in the release.
“These games are an opportunity for Noia members and those who work in the industry to come together in an exciting atmosphere to show their support.”
Meanwhile, Growlers CEO Glenn Standford was quoted in the release saying the team is “proud to work with Noia to show our support for this important industry and all those who work in it” and St. John’s Edge general manager Carl English called the industry “a strong part of this province”.
