The Newfoundland and Labrador Young Farmers’ Forum (NLYFF) has developed a new tool aimed at helping people interested in agriculture determine the necessary steps and the resources at their disposal.

The New Farmers Guide takes new farmers through an eight-step process, offering resources like funding opportunities, contacts and documents along the way.

“The New Farmer Guide is one of the most important pieces of work we’ve done,” NLYFF Chair David Simmons stated. “It links new farmers with all the necessary resources and ties in with the other initiatives we have been working on including the mentorship pilot program, and educational hands-on workshops.”

Merv Wiseman, president of the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture, calls is an essential document for new and beginning farmers.

“By helping new farmers get started and become successful, we are putting the province on track to enhance our food security,” he stated.

The guide is available online at nlyoungfarmers.ca and hard copies can be found at events, industry trade shows, and by request.
