Production aboard the Hebron Platform has restarted following a five-day shutdown due to wild weather and reports of smoke.
The Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board granted approval to restart on Monday afternoon.
At the height of the storm last Thursday, a muster was triggered on the platform after there were reports of smoke in the living quarters. An inspection determined there was no fire.
There were 213 people on board at the time.
The Board, CSO, CCO & the Certifying Authority are satisfied that ExxonMobil has done their required checks to ensure that the effects of the storm on Hebron would not preclude restart. Hebron has now restarted. 4/6

The board also says Hebron will use a remotely operated vehicle before the offloading system is engaged. Offshore oil and gas operators are normally not required to seek approval from the CNLOPB to restart operations, but, in response to the oil spill at Husky Energy’s SeaRose Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO), the board has ordered that all operators be authorized for resuming production operations.
