SOUTH RIVER, N.L. — A proposal for a small commercial cannabis operation has been presented to the town council of South River.

According to a public notice published in this week’s edition of The Compass, the business application is for micro cultivation of cannabis on land located at 212 Salmon Cove Rd., a residential property currently zoned for mixed development. In order for the application to be accepted, the land would need to be rezoned to industrial.

Federal guidelines indicate a micro-cultivation licence permits up to 200 square metres of space for cannabis production in either a greenhouse, warehouse or outdoors.

Public information sessions about the cannabis proposal will be held Tuesday, April 2 at the town hall from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. The town also intends to gain feedback from residents, businesses and landowners during these sessions.
