Experienced model maker Ed Allain donated an impressive model of the Joseph and Clara Smallwood to the Southwest Coast Historical Society on Saturday, June 9.
Nadine Osmond and Natashua Osmond accepted the donation on behalf of the Historical Society.
Terry Anderson, terminal manager at Marine Atlantic, was also on hand to meet Allain and to view the model up close. Appreciation is extended to Marine Atlantic for providing assistance in getting the model to Channel-Port aux Basques.
Allain of Riverview, N.B., took numerous photos of the details of the ferry over the years when sailing on the Joseph and Clara Smallwood to visit Newfoundland.
Some of the finer details on the model include wipers on wheelhouse windows, deck furniture and light fixtures. The model is built to a metric scale of 1/100 and painted in actual Marine Atlantic colors with the exception of the deck green which he mixed himself.
The Joseph and Clara Smallwood model will be on display at the Railway Heritage Museum, which is open for visitation on June 25.
