Carly’s Cookies

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL – Carly Tibbo is spending the last few days of her summer vacation raising money for Ronald McDonald house through a fundraising campaign she started with her grandmother.

Eight-year-old Carly was baking cookies with her grandmother, Brenda Jenkins, and recalls her nan mentioning Ronald McDonald House and what the institution does to help families of cancer patients. She immediately wanted to help, and decided she and her grandmother would bake cookies and sell them to raise money.

“We’re doing it because we’re raising money for the Ronald McDonald House so we can give them money, because some sick kids and their families stay there so they can be close,” said Carly. “We want them to get better soon.”

Carly’s grandmother posted on her Facebook page that Carly would be making and selling cookies, including five stars, snowballs, chocolate chip and cherry blossoms, for $5 a dozen.

Carly received 160 orders of a dozen cookies. Proceeds will go to the Ronald McDonald House charity, thanks to Carly’s family, which offered to purchase all ingredients needed to bake the cookies.

Carly will make her donation to the charity during the Red Shoe Crew walk in Grand Falls-Windsor on Sept. 16.
