Grand Falls-Windsor making payments and registration more accessible through new software

GRAND FALLS-WINDSOR, NL — If you’ve ever found yourself standing in a long line waiting to register your child for a town activity such as gymnastics and asking yourself, ‘Why can’t I just register online”, the Town will soon have a solution to your line up woes.

The Town of Grand Falls-Windsor will be purchasing TownSuite Recreation Software which will allow families to create a profile and both register and pay for any events they are interested in — gymnastics, pottery class, wine and cheese night, just to name a few.

The program will also give users the ability to view the ice time schedule, book and pay for their ice time anywhere, anytime.
“I think, we are in 2017, a lot of these young families, young people that use it are looking to technology and that’s the route they want to go,” said Councillor Peggy Bartlett during the council meeting.

Not only will the new software make registration easier for recreation programs,
residents will also be able to pay their taxes online.

This software will both cut down on staff resources and cash flow since people will be able to pay by credit card online. That means there will be fewer deposits made and the transfer of funds will go directly to the finance department.

During the council meeting on Sept. 19, council decided by a vote of 5-2, with Councillors Darren Finn and Tom Pinsent voting against, that the Town will purchase the software and review the effectiveness of the program over 12 months as well as investigate user fees to cover the ongoing costs of the program.
