RED BAY, NL. – A beluga whale has been seen hanging around the shores of Labrador.
Since Saturday night, June 9, the whale has been spotted swimming in Red Bay harbour.
Vicki Hancock captured some pictures of the beluga and sent them to the Northern Pen. She estimates the whale is about 10-feet long.
According to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans website, individuals, often juveniles, from a number of beluga populations may visit Newfoundland and Labrador waters.
They rarely appear off Newfoundland and Labrador shores in groups of hundreds.
