The Western Regional Waste Management Committee has put the mandatory Sort-It program in place where people are now required to separate regular garbage and recyclable materials in clear and transparent blue bags. The program is aimed at less garbage going into landfills.

QUESTION:  What do you think of this new Sort-It program and do you plan to comply with separating your garbage and recyclables?

Kim LeCointre

- Mainland

I’m for it because I did it before when I live in Prince Edward Island. It’s great for the environment and it’s time that it came here to this province.

Todd Fradsham

- Stephenville

I think it’s a good program. We’ll need a little bit of time to get used to it. Hopefully the “garbage police” will be good to us as we adjust.

Vince McGrath

- Kippens

I don’t agree with the program. As a single man most of my garbage will be going to the extra bag itself. Normally I put out one small bag and now I’ll be forced to put out two larger ones.

Terry White

- Kippens

It may be a little different at first but we’ll get used to it and the best thing is that it will still be good for the environment.

Deanne Walsh

- Stephenville

Yes, the Sort-It program is a good one. I really believe that recycling is the way to go for the future in this province.

Imelda Bennett

- Stephenville Crossing

I do plan to separate my garbage and recyclables and I believe once you get used to it, it’s not hard. My sister had to do it in Halifax and I believe we should be doing more of it.
