Cannabis may be legal now in Canada, but there are numerous regulations surrounding its transportation and use.
Two motorists on the Burin Peninsula learned about one of those laws in recent days, according to a release issued by the RCMP on Tuesday, Oct. 23.
Between Oct. 20 and 22, police stopped two vehicles in the region and charged the drivers under the Cannabis Control Act for having cannabis that was not properly sealed.
One of the drivers was a 21-year-old woman from Garnish, while the other was a 20-year-old man from Marystown.
A quantity of the drug was seized, according to the release.
The RCMP is reminding the public that, to transport cannabis in a vehicle, it must be in the package in which it was purchased, with an unbroken seal, or not be readily available to anyone in the vehicle, unless the person who is being transported is in a bus or taxi.
