It seems that a fair number of Newfoundland and Labrador residents are planning to buy marijuana for personal use at least occasionally when it becomes legal next year but perhaps not as many as some would expect.
A survey conducted by Corporate Research Associates Inc. in November found 23 per cent of respondents say they will either definitely or probably purchase the drug.
The percentage is much higher among younger people with 48 per cent of residents between the ages of 18 and 34 years saying they will buy legal marijuana, compared to just 16 per cent of those aged 35 to 54 years and 15 per cent aged 55 years or older.
Just over three-quarters, 76 per cent, of residents, meanwhile, say they will either probably not or definitely not do so, once marijuana is legalized.
The results are based on a telephone sample of 400 adult Newfoundland and Labrador residents.
