DEER LAKE, N.L. — The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are asking for the public’s assistance identifying suspects involved in an cross-island crime spree that took this morning.
It started in Whitbourne at 6:15 a.m. when a man entered the North Atlantic Orange Store and proceeded to leave without paying for his merchandise. He was seen entering an older model, purple-coloured, four-door Mazda sedan that was last seen traveling west on the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH).
A little less than three and a half hours later, Deer Lake RCMP officers received a report that a man had pumped gas into a similar vehicle at the Western Petroleum gas station at Hamden Junction on the TCH. He, too, left without paying.
Deer Lake RCMP observed the vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed and unwilling to stop for police.
The RCMP believe the vehicle and occupants are currently in the Corner Brook or Bay of Islands area at this time and have obtained the assistance of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary.
Anyone with information on this matter is asked to contact Deer Lake RCMP at 709-635-2173, through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), or online at nlcrimestoppers.com.
