HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — A Happy Valley Goose Bay man is scheduled to go on trial in October, pending the results of a preliminary inquiry in August.
Val Oliver, 52, pleaded not guilty to the single charge against him on May 21 in Happy Valley-Goose Bay provincial court.
A preliminary inquiry is used to determine whether there is enough evidence for a case to go to trial. Oliver has the inquiry set for Aug. 30.
Oliver is currently on house arrest, following a 90 day sentence for sexual assault on April 11.
Oliver was previously a communications director for the Department of Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs and also for MP Yvonne Jones. Oliver is also well known in the community through his former photography business and as a former Santa Claus in the annual Christmas Parade.
His trial is set from Oct. 29 to 31.
