A Happy Valley-Goose Bay man was sentenced to 23 months in jail today, May 24, for a large collection of child pornography.
Judge Phyllis Harris sentenced David Inkpen, 36, to 23 months plus three years probation for the over 80,000 images of children aged four to 14 the RCMP found on electronics belonging to him.

Inkpen will also be added to the sex offender registry for 20 years and have to submit a DNA sample. During his probationary period he will not be permitted to own any phones, tablets, or computers that connect to the Internet unless it's for work.
The Crown had asked for a sentence of two years less a day and the defense had asked for 16 to 18 months. He pleaded guilty to a single count of possession of child pornography and a count of distribution of child pornography was dropped.
During sentencing submissions the court was told Inkpen had said to police that before moving to Happy Valley-Goose Bay two year ago he had deleted his entire collection of child pornography but within a few months had begun collecting it again.
