The Department of Municipal Affairs and Environment is monitoring Environment and Climate Change Canada weather forecast information on an approaching system that will bring periods of heavy rainfall and strong winds to the island and snow to parts of Labrador beginning today.
Strong southeasterly winds of up to 100 kilometres per hour may occur over most of the island and 120 kilometres per hour in the Wreckhouse area. High breaking waves may affect the west and southwest coasts of the island as the system passes on Tuesday. As a safety precaution, the public is advised to keep away from the shoreline.
Snow and strong northeast winds are forecast in central Labrador Tuesday evening into Wednesday.
