HOLYROOD, N.L. — On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the RCMP's Traffic Services Unit East conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Brigus Junction.

The vehicle had been travelling well above the posted speed limit even though the area was experiencing rain, drizzle and fog at the time.

The driver, a 33-year-old woman from St. John’s, was issued a summary offence ticket for exceeding the posted speed limit by more than 51 kilometers per hour. In addition, her driver's licence was suspended for a week and her vehicle was impounded for three days.

The RCMP reminds motorists that the posted speed limits are based on ideal, daytime driving conditions, and that care should be taken to drive to the existing road and weather conditions.
