HAPPY VALLEY-GOOSE BAY, N.L. — A former RCMP officer charged with child luring will see the end of his court case in March.
Final submissions were made by Kaulback’s lawyer, Jason Edwards and Crown prosecutor Trina Simms in Happy Valley-Goose Bay court on Monday, Feb. 11.
Kaulback, an RCMP officer stationed in Hopedale at the time, was arrested for alleged child luring Feb. 8, 2013. He pleaded not guilty and was charged with a second count of child luring July 9, 2014.
The charges against Kaulback had been stayed when a judge ruled his Charter rights had been violated. That ruling was unanimously overturned by the Court of Appeal in February of 2018 and Kaulback was ordered to stand trial.
The court heard five days of testimony in mid-August, including two of the alleged victims. There was also an additional three days of testimony in January, when forensic expert Dean Boyer testified. Boyer works with the integrated child exploitation unit, a joint RCMP and RNC operation. Boyer spoke about how police used forensic technology to analyze Kaulbacks computer and Facebook account.
The case is scheduled to return to Happy Valley-Goose Bay provincial court for a decision on March 19.
