Nunatsiavut beneficiaries in Upper Lake Melville will have new faces running in the upcoming Nunatsiavut Assembly election in May.
Patricia Kemuksigak, Ordinary Member for Lake Melville, resigned from the indigenous government on Jan. 8. Kemuksigak, who served as Minister of Education and Economic Development, and former Minister of Health and Social Development, left to take on a position with the Charles J. Andrew Youth Treatment Centre in Sheshatshiu.
Nunatsiavut President Johannes Lampe extended best wishes to Kemuksigak.
“I want to thank Patricia for her years of service to the Nunatsiavut Government,” said Lampe. “As a member of the Nunatsiavut Executive Council, Patricia was a strong advocate for Labrador Inuit. Her presence will certainly be missed.”
Finance, Human Resources and Information Technology Minister Tyler Edmunds, the Ordinary Member for Postville, will assume the duties of Minister of Education and Economic Development on an interim basis.
The other Ordinary Member for Lake Melville, Roy Blake, abruptly resigned in November, leaving both positions up for grabs in the next election.
