On Friday morning, Dec. 7, Baie Verte RCMP received a high influx of calls for service with reports of break, enter and thefts in which Christmas trees, decorations and gifts were stolen overnight while residents were sleeping inside their homes.

Investigators were baffled that items such as turkeys, moose meat and turrs were stolen from freezers while other items in the house of much more value were left untouched.

A witness stated that she saw a green figure with a red jacket on the roof of her house and when she asked what he was up to, the suspect said, "Now my dear, you mind your business and go inside your house and get yourself a cup of tea, a bite to eat and go to bed."

A short while later, police officers responded to a report of a minor motor vehicle collision in which a large sled was said to have collided with a 12 Elan snowmobile at the base of the old ski hill. The driver of the sled identified himself as the Grinch.

His sled was found to contain a large amount of the stolen property from the break and enters. The Grinch was arrested and is currently being held in custody.

To ease the community's anxiety, the Grinch was paraded through the community so that people could see first-hand that he had been captured.

Communities along the Baie Verte Peninsula are relieved that there will indeed be a Christmas this year.
