A 33-year-old man from the Bay St. George area charged him with attempted murder had his bail hearing postponed until his next court appearance on Jan. 21.
He was remanded in custody when he appeared before Judge Lynn E. Cole in Stephenville Provincial Court on Tuesday afternoon.
The man was arrested following a response to a 911 call on Sunday afternoon. When police arrived at the scene, the suspect had fled the area, but he was later taken into custody around Montana Drive in Stephenville, with assistance from the RCMP’s Police Dog Service.
A woman was treated at hospital and later released.
Other charges against the suspect include overcoming resistance to commit an indictable offence, two charges of assault, mischief relating to property less than $5,000, theft under $5,000, uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm and forcible confinement.
The man cannot be named as the judge has placed a publication ban on his identity.
Police said the incident is not believed to be random as the man arrested and the victim are known to each other.
An investigation is ongoing.
