Testing of the pool at Grenfell Campus in Corner Brook has been completed and Mayor Jim Parsons is expecting to learn the results in the next month.
The city and Grenfell announced in May that they were looking into the feasibility of utilizing the university’s pool as part of a new aquatic and community centre.
The university pool has been closed since April 2016.

The university made the decision to close the facility due to it being in need of major repairs. There were issues with the pool deck and the concrete slab that supports the pool had concrete falling off it. The rebar that gives the structure its integrity was also corroding.
At the time, the university said it did not have the estimated $1.8 million to rehabilitate the pool.
The money situation hasn’t really changed, but the attitude that sees value in having the pool open has.
Earlier this week Parsons said DPF Consulting and Contracting Inc. had completed the onsite work associated with the feasibility study and was in the process of analyzing the material gathered.
“I want to find out if we can move on to the conceptual design stage,” said Parsons. “That would be great to get that going.”
The estimated $49,647.20 (plus HST) cost of the feasibility study on the Grenfell pool is being covered by the city.
