ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The provincial government announced today the MyGovNL pilot project for the Motor Registration Division (MRD) to allow users to manage their licence and vehicle renewals in one combined online platform, replacing several separate online functions.

Starting Thursday, approximately 5,000 motorists will be invited to take part in the pilot project and starting in May, an approximately 10,000 additional motorists will be invited to participate each month.

Residents who wish to participate in the pilot can sign up at EngageNL.ca. Residents who have already registered an email address for vehicle or driver’s licence renewals will already be eligible to receive an invite.

A news release states the pilot project uses several of the systems announced previously under the Digital Way Forward plan including:

  • MyGovNL digital ID: The digital ID will provide participants with one set of authentication credentials for select MRD services and applications. At the end of the five-year plan, this digital ID will be used for services government-wide;
  • MyGovNL profile: The MyGovNL profile will consolidate each individual’s common, shared client information into a single client record. At the end of the five-year plan, the profile will allow each individual to update their personal information across government accounts in one centralized place.
  • MyGovNL dashboard: A secure self-service area where participants can renew licences and update their notification preferences. At the end of the five-year plan, users will be able to manage digital interactions across government using this dashboard.
  • Alerts and notifications: Government will be able to send alerts regarding upcoming renewals directly to participants. At the end of the five-year plan, the system will allow government to update residents about matters of importance to them, and they will be able to set personalized alerts and receive the notifications however they prefer.

The Digital Way Forward is the provincial government’s plan to enhance government services for residents and businesses by 2022-23.
