ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — The probe into a stabbing in the downtown area of St. John’s last week has turned into a homicide investigation.

RNC Const. James Cadigan confirmed Monday morning that the 27-year-old man who was stabbed Tuesday, Sept. 3, on Livingstone Street died in hospital late Friday.

Many people took to social media over the weekend to express condolences for Cyrus Clarke.

It’s believed the incident happened in “an open area” and that the man knew his attacker, Cadigan had indicated.

He said police don’t believe there is any safety risk to the public and on Monday, added the RNC may hold a news conference this afternoon to provide an update.

Officers are asking anyone who might know anything about it to contact the RNC at 729-8000 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). Information can also be provided anonymously on the NL Crime Stoppers website at nlcrimestoppers.com.
