Juno-winning local artists Duo Concertante and acclaimed St. John's-based clarinetist Christine Carter will celebrate their new collaborative album with an eastern Canadian tour, including a show at Memorial University next month.

"Invitation: Trios for Clarinet, Violin and Piano" features 20th-century works allowing each of the musicians to shine: Aram Khachaturian's "Trio for Clarinet, Violin and Piano,” Darius Milhaud's "Suite," music from the play "L'invitation au chateau" by Francis Poulenc, and Patrick Cardy's "Tango!"

Duo Concertante, a.k.a. violinist Nancy Dahn and pianist Timothy Steeves, have toured around the world and have released 10 recordings, including their album "Incarnation," which was picked by the CBC as one of the country's Top 10 classical recordings of 2017.

They've won a Juno and multiple East Coast Music Awards, and are the artistic directors of the Tuckamore Festival, as well as research professors at MUN.

Carter is an accomplished orchestral musician, having played with the Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra as well as orchestras in Miami, Montreal and New York, performing at Carnegie Hall, among other prestigious venues. She has spent five seasons performing with ensemble Dark by Five at the Gros Morne Summer Music festival, and is an assistant professor at MUN's school of music.

"After two decades of working and performing together, Nancy and Tim are unrivaled musical communicators," Carter said in a news release. "It was an incredible experience to step into this special dynamic and cultivate a unique trio sound with these exceptional artists."

Carter and Duo Concertante will tour Nova Scotia and Ontario, with one local stop in between: a show at the MUN school of music's D.F. Cook Recital Hall on Feb. 2. Tickets are available online at secure.ticketpro.ca.
