Farmers Dairy has voluntary withdrawn some of its milk and cream products from store shelves around Atlantic Canada.
According to the company’s website, the withdrawal was initially due to an off-tasting flavour.
Farmers Dairy posted on its Facebook page on Tuesday, Jan. 30, that further investigation revealed the cause to be residual cleaning solution in the tanker used to transport the milk.
“The level and concentration were assessed, and although it has resulted in off-taste products, it does not pose a health risk for consumers. Actions were immediately taken to prevent the reoccurrence of this incident,” the post stated.
The brands affected are Farmers, Natrel and Northumberland. The lengthy list of products includes two per cent milk, one per cent milk, 3.25 per cent homogenized milk, skim milk, coffee cream and whipping cream.
Farmers Dairy's website indicated the only product distributed in Newfoundland and Labrador is the one-litre carton of 0.4 per cent cultured buttermilk. It has an expiry of FE10 and UPC 0006799704711.
Consumers can return the listed products to their point of sale for a full refund or contact Consumer-Response at 1-800-501-1150.
