BRENT’S COVE, NL – A home in the community of Brent’s Cove was destroyed by a fire late on Tuesday, Jan. 30.
The La Scie Fire Department responded to the blaze with its truck and rescue unit, Fire Chief Douglas Warren told SaltWire Network Friday.
The house at 14A Main St. was unsalvageable by the time firefighters arrived, Warren said, so they focused their attention on making sure no other homes were lost.
“There were a couple homes close by. One had a bit of damage done to the siding,” Warren said. “We protected the homes as much as we could.”
No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries, Warren said.
Meanwhile, the Canadian Red Cross has stepped in to help the family of three – a man and his two daughters, ages 18 and 12 – who were displaced by the fire. Volunteers have provided food, clothing and other basic necessities, a news release from the organization's indicated.
The trio are staying with relatives for the time being.
