A Deer Lake man arrested in connection with a marijuana grow operation in Cormack last year has entered guilty pleas to the charges against him.

Garry Edgar Gregory, 55, entered the pleas to nine charges when he appeared in the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and Labrador in Corner Brook Monday morning.

He actually entered a not guilty plea to a charge of possessing cocaine for the purposes of trafficking, but did plead guilty to the lesser and included offence of possessing the cocaine.

Crown attorney Adam Joyce accepted that guilty plea, as well as the eight others for offences that included possessing marijuana for the purposes of trafficking, possessing cannabis resin for the purposes of trafficking, two counts of possessing marijuana and one count of unlawfully producing marijuana.

He also entered guilty pleas to two breaches of an undertaking to keep the peace and be of good behavior and one charge of possessing a firearm without a license.

The charges stem from a drug bust in Deer Lake on Sept. 26, 2017 and a raid of a property in Cormack the following day.

Justice George Murphy did not hear any of the facts surrounding the offences Monday. A sentencing hearing for Gregory has been scheduled for Jan 14, at the defence’s request.

Joyce indicated the Crown had dates available prior to that for the sentencing, but said he had no issues with waiting until January, given the entry of guilty pleas.

Earlier this year, Gregory was sentenced to serve six months in jail for assaulting another man with a tire iron at a Deer Lake bar in June 2017.
