A pair teenage girls from Grand Falls-Windsor and one of the girls’ parents who helped save the life of a man in cardiac arrest will be honoured by the Canadian Red Cross on Tuesday.
Brooklynn Rogers and Chloe Cuff, along with Rogers’ parents Keith and Sabrina Butt, will be presented with Rescuer Awards in recognition of their efforts to assist John MacSween in the winter of 2016.
On Mar. 9 that year, Rogers and Cuff, both 13 at the time, were stepping off the school bus on the way when Cuff spotted MacSween lying motionless in a snowbank and called on Rogers to help her.
Cuff stayed with MacSween while Rogers went to get her parents who returned to the scene, called 911 and performed CPR until paramedics arrived on scene.
The awards are bestowed on non-professional rescuers or off-duty first responders whose actions save a life, prevent further injury and/or provided comfort to the injured.
The ceremony will take place ahead of the town of Grand Falls-Windsor's regular council meeting at 7 p.m.
While MacSween and his wife Cheryl will be attendance, they won't be speaking at the event.
