Lawyer Ches Crosbie continues to add endorsements, while still the only person officially in the running for leader of the Progressive Conservatives of Newfoundland and Labrador.
In a news release issued Friday from the Crosbie camp, former government minister Dan Crummell has issued his support for Crosbie, adding his voice to that of former premier Tom Marshall and former premier Tom Rideout.
“Many Newfoundlanders and Labradorians believe, for the first time in our history, that our present Liberal government will be a one-term government. Now, people are looking for leadership that can restore confidence in our economy and our political institutions. They are looking for a leader who has the honesty and integrity to do what they say they will do. I believe Ches Crosbie is that leader,” Crummell said in the statement.
Details of the leadership race were released by the party in August, with lawyer Jessica Babb and former minister Shawn Skinner as co-chairs of the selection committee.
Crosbie officially announced his campaign for the leadership at Quidi Vidi brewery in St. John’s on Oct. 24.
Tony Wakeham has indicated he is considering a run, but has not officially launched a campaign.
If anyone is going to challenge Crosbie, their nomination forms are due to the committee co-chairs by Jan. 15, 2018.
The party will name its new leader on April 28, 2018.
