Newfoundland and Labrador has a new auditor general, with Julia Mullaley filling the space vacated by Terry Paddon at the end of October.
Mullaley has experience with government and has served under both Liberal and Progressive Conservative governments.

In August 2013, then-premier Kathy Dunderdale named Mullaley to the top position of clerk of the executive council and secretary to cabinet. She took over from Robert Thompson, who retired after 31 years in public service.
In September 2016, Mullaley was named acting CEO of the Newfoundland and Labrador Housing Corp. by Premier Dwight Ball. Her position on the executive council was filled by Bernard Coffey, while she took over at the housing corporation from retiring CEO Tom Lawrence.
“She has led the public service through many challenges with poise and determination,” Ball said in a statement issued when Mullaley’s move to the housing corporation was announced.
All parties and Independent MHA Paul Lane offered their support for Mullaley's appointment in the House of Assembly on December 7.
An appointment as auditor general is for a 10-year term, as per the Auditor General Act.
