Memorial University awarded alumni of distinction Thursday evening at the 37th annual Alumni Tribute Awards, held at Signal Hill Campus. Businessman and former Liberal candidate Paul Antle received the 2018 Alumnus of the Year Award. The J.D. Eaton Award for outstanding volunteer contributions to the university went to Fred Cahill, president of construction company The Cahill Group. Aspiring astronaut Bethany Downer received the Horizon Award — a recognition of achievement by a Memorial graduate who is 35 years of age or younger. Longtime volunteer and leader Sharron Callahan received the Community Service Award.
