The Department of Transportation and Works says repairs to the port thruster on the MV Veteran are now expected to be completed in February.
Originally, the department anticipated the work would be done this month and the provincial ferry returned to the to the Fogo Island-Change Island-Farewell run.
A delay in the shipment of replacement parts from Rolls Royce, the manufacturer, is the cause of the timeline change, the department said in a news release today, Jan. 11.
The $50-million vessel has been out of service since October. It’s the second time there has been an issue with the same thruster, the first occurring in April 2016.
The MV Legionnaire will continue to service Fogo Island-Change Islands-Farewell until the Veteran returns.
The MV Flanders and MV Beaumont Hamel are servicing Bell Island in the interim.
