ST. JOHN'S, N.L. — A group of workers from Pleasant View Towers represented by the Newfoundland and Labrador Association of Public and Private Employees (NAPE) demonstrated outside the long-term care facility today.
The employees, led by union president Jerry Earle, voiced concerns about understaffing, working short, unfair changes to leave provisions, refusal of leave, being mandated to stay at work, and various other related issues and concerns related to their work and working conditions.
The issues, Earle stated in a release, “have caused significant stress and strain on our members and is affecting the vital care and services they provide."
Earle said the union has reached a point in its dealing with facility management that forced them to demonstrate as the issues
"We know these circumstances exist in other facilities across the province and this may be the first of many such demonstrations if the issues are not adequately addressed on a systemic level," Earle stated. ”Our members are reaching a breaking point and want to express their frustrations and concerns."
