GANDER, NL – The need for supplemental medical air ambulance services in the central region will be the focus of a meeting in Gander on Friday, March 2.
The meeting, which is being held at Weston’s at the Airport from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., will include a presentation and discussions about air ambulance patients receiving top priority, why Gander is the ideal location for the supplemental air ambulance aircraft, and the economic regionalization of aerospace excellence.
The session will be organized by Eugene Nippard, citizens’ representative of the Fogo Island Transportation Committee and chair of the Air Ambulance Aircraft Committee based in Gander, and Patrick White, president and CEO of EVAS Air.
Nippard says it’s imperative that supplemental medical air ambulance services be based in Gander to bring service closer to patients for the central Newfoundland, northeast coast and Bay d’Espoir region.
“Gander is ideal location and natural choice for this service because of the large area it would cover,” said Nippard. “The people of Fogo Island have been fighting for this service for many years.”
White, whose company employs about 225 workers, says supplemental medical air service in Gander would cut down on response time by 30 minutes for patients throughout central Newfoundland, the northeast coast and Bay d’Espoir area and other communities. Response time from St. John’s is 60 minutes.
