GRAND BANK, NL – Premier Dwight Ball will host an event announcing Newfoundland and Labrador’s involvement in the national Roots of Hope initiative in Grand Bank on Monday, Jan. 22.

According to a news release from the provincial government, Roots of Hope is a community suicide prevention project.

The town of Grand Bank has been rocked by a number of suicides in the past couple of years.

Joining Ball will be Health and Community Services Minister John Haggie, Burin-Grand Bank MHA Carol Anne Haley, Placentia West-Bellevue MHA Mark Browne, Mental Health Commission of Canada president and CEO Louise Bradley, Eastern Health president and CEO David Diamond and Grand Bank Mayor Rex Matthews.

Members of the Burin Peninsula Community Coalition for Mental Health and Wellness will also be on hand.

The event will take place at the Grand Bank municipal centre at 11:30 a.m.
