CENTRAL NEWFOUNDLAND – Central Health is advising of a temporary diversion of obstetrical labour and delivery services.

From Friday, Dec. 22 to Tuesday, Jan. 2, the services will be diverted from the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre in Grand Falls-Windsor to James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander.

Perinatal clinic referrals from family physicians will continue to be received by the Women’s Health Network (WHN).

According to Central Health, expectant mothers do not need to call to reschedule their perinatal clinic appointments, and they do not need new referrals from their family physicians.

If there are any changes to their perinatal clinic appointment details, they will be contacted.

If an expectant mother feels she may be in labour and the intended place of delivery is the Central Newfoundland Regional Health Centre, she should proceed to the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre.

If it seems the delivery may happen quickly, go to the nearest emergency department for assessment.
