GANDER, NL – The Town of Gander has made significant step in its effort to establish an accessible playground at Cobb’s Pond Rotary Park, according to Mayor Percy Farwell.

The town allocated $65,000 in its 2018 budget to get the project started. Preliminary work indicates the funds will be used to purchase a rubberized surface and/or an accessible play lot/swings.

“It’s hard to say exactly what it will cover at this point, because it’s still in the pricing stage to see what’s available for that amount of money,” said Farwell.

And while this funding won’t cover the cost of establishing a full play area, the mayor says it won’t be the only investment.

“This is a work in progress,” he said, “$65,000 is a nice start, and it certainly indicates the direction we want to go in.”

Farwell is also hoping community partners will become involved in the project to allow to the town to establish a fully accessible playground more quickly.
