The Newfoundland and Labrador government says it will spend approximately $2.2 million to clear in excess of 500 hectares of brush from roadsides in the province this year.

A total of 29 routes throughout the province will be cleared with areas determined based on several factors, including traffic volumes, visibility and moose-vehicle collision rates.

“Clearing roadside brush along our highways is an important part of our greater efforts to make highway travel safer in Newfoundland and Labrador,” Transportation and Works Ministe Steve Crocker said in a news release Tuesday, Dec. 12.

“While we know brush clearing is an effective way to keep highways safe, we remind everyone to slow down, pay attention and watch for moose.”
