Hundt, 62, is currently the Catholic church’s Bishop for the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador, a position he’s held since April of 2011.

The native of Hanover, Ont. joined the priesthood in 1982, first serving as an associate pastor at St. Eugene Parish in Hamilton, Ont.

After completing graduate studies at the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome, earning a license in canon law in 1987. On his return to Canada, he served Vice-Chancellor of the Hamilton Diocese from 1987 until 1990 and as Chancellor from 1990 to 1994.

Hundt spent the next 12 years as the pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Georgetown, Ont. before being appointed and ordained as Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto by Pope Benedict XVI in 2006.

Currie, meanwhile, will serve as the apostolic administrator until Hundt’s formal installation as archbishop for the province’s largest roman catholic diocese at a later date.
