SPRINGDALE, NL — Schools throughout the Baie Verte Peninsula and Green Bay areas have been closed for the day due to the winter storm warning.
A snowfall warning is in affect for the area — between 15-25 centimetres of snow expected, but higher amounts are possible. Rapidly accumulating snow is expected to make travel difficult. There is also expected to be winds gusting around 60 kilometres per hour, making for poor visibility.
Brian Peckford Primary in Triton, Green Bay South Academy in Robert's Arm, Dorset Collegiate in Pilley's Island, Indian River High School and Indian River Academy in Springdale, Valmont Academy in King's Point, M.S.B. Regional Academy in Middle Arm, Cape John Collegiate in La Scie, and Copper Ridge Academy in Baie Verte are all closed for the day.
St. Peter's Academy in Westport had a notice of closure for the morning with a further announcement at 10:30 a.m.
The snow is expected to later change to ice pellet and freezing rain, and then to rain tonight.
