The provincial government will make good on a promise in the 2017 budget on Friday with a second reduction in the temporary gas tax.

To help counter the province’s mounting deficit, a 16.5 cent per litre gas tax was introduced in the 2016 budget.

The provincial government committed in April to reducing the tax by 75 per cent by the end of this year.

The temporary tax was reduced by 8.5 cents on June 1. Another reduction of four cents will be made tomorrow, Friday, Dec. 1, for a total cut of 12.5 cents per litre.

“We will continue to take a balanced approach to fiscal management, where we focus on finding efficiencies and delivering programs and services that are important to the people of this province,” Finance Minister Tom Osborne said in a news release Thursday.
