ST. JOHN’S — Sobeys kicked off its ninth annual Star of Christmas food bank drive campaign throughout Atlantic Canada this week.
The campaign, which runs Nov. 16-29, will see more than 300 locations selling $2 stars to raise funds for local food banks. Customers can also purchase pre-filled hampers for hope or donate a non-perishable food item at Sobeys, Foodland, participating Co-Ops, Needs and Sobeys express stores.
The campaign has raised more than $4.5 million in food and funds since 2010.
“Food security is an important issue for many Atlantic Canadians, so we are proud at Sobeys to help ensure families are always able to eat,” Paul MacLeod, vice-president Atlantic store operations, stated in a news release.
“The Star of Christmas food bank drive is one of our largest campaigns in our region to help local food banks fill their shelves and we time the campaign so that it leads into the holiday season, one of the more vulnerable times for families.”
