The woman believed to be the oldest living person in Newfoundland and Labrador has died.
Freda Gillis, who turned 108 years of age on Dec. 5, 2018, passed peacefully away on Thursday according to a post on social media from a family member.
For more than 20 years, she and husband Tommy lived in the Highlands where they worked hard to raise their five children.
The early 1950s marked a new phase for her when her husband became a pulpwood contractor for Bowaters. For nearly 30 cherished years Freda assisted him, keeping meticulous records of essential information and completing many other tasks relating to the business.
Their work brought them to different locations in Western Newfoundland where they worked out of woods camps.
