Stephenville Mayor Tom Rose believes there should be an inquiry into what he calls high air fares that people must pay in this province.

He’s calling on the provincial government to conduct such an inquiry and said in at least one other jurisdiction, Iceland, air fares were decreased dramatically following such a public inquiry.

Rose said he had to pay nearly $900 to fly to St. John’s for recent medical treatments and he’s sure that others end up using ground transportation because they can’t afford the hefty air fares.

He feels it shouldn’t cost that much to fly across the island.
