Take Back the Night march Sept. 20 in Port aux Basques

The annual Take Back the Night march will be hosted Friday, Sept. 20 by the Gateway Status of Women Council.
The event, held to bring awareness to sexual violence, will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Gateway Women's Centre. All are welcome.
Port aux Basques Mayor John Spencer, joined by councillors and representatives from the Gateway Status of Women Council., recently signed a proclamation recognizing Sexual Violence Awareness Week Sept. 16-20.
The proclamation recognizes the need to support survivors and the urgent need to end sexual violence and its contributing factors to achieve safe and healthy communities. 
Sexual violence is a crime that can affect anyone, and the rate of sexual assault in Newfoundland and Labrador continues to be higher that the national average.
This year's theme is Communities Rooted in Resilience.
