A female driver fled the scene on foot early Sunday morning after she was unable to back her car from under the utility pole she had just cracked off.

The collision happened at about 6 a.m. on Blackmarsh Road when the car slammed into the pole, breaking it off and sending it crashing down across the front of the woman’s car.

The homeowner on whose property the pole had been sitting came out of his house to find the woman trying to reverse away from the destruction. When she was unable to do so, she got out of the vehicle and walked away from the area.

St. John’s Regional firefighters and then RNC officers tried to locate the driver.

It’s unknown if they were successful.

The incident is being investigated.
